Sacramento Martial Arts and Karate

In 2010-2011 I will be participating in the Ultimate Black Belt Test to empower my mind, body and to accomplish the requirements to be able to test for the rank
of Sho Dan.




I plan on doing the following:


  • 150 push-ups daily
  • 150 crunches daily
  • Approximately four 2-minute rounds of sparring (any style) 5-days a week
  • 3 repetitions of all Isshinryu kata every day
  • 15 minutes of Daily Meditation/Prayer/Breathing time daily
  • Walk, run, swim, or bike 3-miles daily


This journey will be starting on December 1st 2010. I am looking forward to the challenge and to the end result!



My UBBT 2011 Requirements


  • No Quitting
  • 50,000 Pushups & Crunches (150 per day)
  • 1,000 Repetitions of every kata (3 repetitions daily)
  • 1,000 Mile Journey (run, walk, bike or swim) (3 miles daily)
  • 1,000 Acts of Kindness
  • 1,000 Rounds of sparring
  • 15 Minutes of Daily Meditation/Prayer/Breathing Time
  • 1 Personal Victory – Quit Smoking
  • Weekly On-line Journal Entries
  • Empathy Training (Spend a day blindfolded/mute/in a wheelchair)
  • Two Video blogs
  • Seek out a Master
  • Community Service project
  • Read 6 books
  • Memorize the Black Belt Pledge
  • Essay on What a Black Belt Means to Me

For those of you doing the UBBT with Mr. Setser-Pfleger and myself, you will see that our goals are a little more complex than most of the others. That's because the UBBT is about challenging the individual. For the rest of you, this a chance to live like a black-belt. For Mr. Setser-Pfleger, this literally is his black-belt test.
