Sacramento Martial Arts and Karate

This week's overarching theme is overcoming resistance from my lizard brain, which doesn't like to be uncomfortable, and taking the long view. It was hard to get up a few days this week--my body definitely wants to hibernate for the winter.  But, I'm enough of a data geek for the spreadsheet tracking to motivate me. I have to keep filling in those cells! The wake-up calls--crickets from my phone so as not to wake up David--has been effective most days.

There are some areas I need to work on: my nutrition could use some improvement--it's always hard to resist holiday treats. The quiet time is something I fit in after the gym and before the rest of the house is awake, but could use a bit more intention. The acts of kindness will also require some creativity to really extend beyond the routine courtesies that are part of most days.

The holidays will be a challenge--potentially more time because of a break from work obligations, but also lack of structure and routine. I am also going to a work conference that first week of January and trying to figure out how to incorporate the requirements into hotel living and 12-14 hour days--basics in the hallway?

Did I really just break the 2,000 mark for crunches and pushups? The spreadsheet tells me I did.

I could really use a massage gift card in my stocking. ;)

Two of my friends on the journey--four if you count the inserts.

Thanks for the tips! I wouldn't have thought of inserts if it weren't for Fleet Feet--they're awesome. Depending on the conference schedule, I can always break out my moves in the convention center. ;)

Hopefully they have a work out room, but the best part about practicing your basics is how little room you need! Visualize the step, and complete the upper body motion. That's how I practiced when I was away for work.

Also, ask for an extra towel. It works great as a back support/yoga mat if you have space in your room to do the sit ups and push ups.

Just the fact that you're thinking ahead shows great dedication. Keep up the good work!

Inserts rock!  Have a great conference!  Maybe the hotel will have a work out room...
