California International Marathon - Need Support on the Sidelines!

Hi Everybody! I have a special request to make...

Most of you guys are aware that I do a lot of stuff with Getty Owl Foundation. And some of you are aware that I run a lot. Well, here's where the two meet: Kate, Getty's mom, and the brains behind Getty Owl Foundation, is my dedicated running buddy. And by 'dedicated' I mean I show up at her house on Sunday mornings and she says "let's go." Then about 5 minutes into the run she says something like... "We're going 16 miles today," or "Let's start with a run to the capital and back and go from there..." Yes, it's as scary as it seems.

Well, on Sunday, December 8th, we are running the California International Marathon. We will be running in our Team Getty shirts, with our wrist bands on, side-by-side, for 26.2 miles. It's Kate's first marathon but Getty can't be out on the sidelines because the prolonged exposure to cold weather and other people are too high a risk. For Getty, a simple cold can be life-threatening. However, with some coordination and some cell-phone-awesomeness, Getty will be at the finish line.

So here's my request:

I want to see how many people we can get to line the course and hold up signs to keep Kate (and me) encouraged.

Just make a sign that says "Go Kate Mathany" or "Run for Getty" or "All for Getty Owl" and sign them Zen Martial Arts. Believe me, it will really help. I have Team Getty wrist bands for everyone who can make it out.

Here's a map of the course. Pick your spot. And scream when you see us. We'll be wearing black Team Getty shirts, Kate will be wearing a light blue Team Getty hat. We'll be breathing hard, possibly limping, possibly walking, maybe even rolling or dragging each other... but we'll be moving forward.

I hope to see you there!!!!!

Hi guys, so glad to hear from you. I'm thinking we'll be at maybe a 5 hr pace. That's really a total guess based on our consistent 2:10 half marathons plus the cushion because everything starts to hurt at mile 18.

Ms. Scott - What pace are you running?  When do you expect to be, say, by the H Street Bridge crossing, or the railroad tracks in midtown?  Francis and I hope to cheer you on somewhere after the 20 mile mark.
