Our school is integrating a program called
Verbal Judo into
our classes. It’s a set of tactical communications lessons that goes
hand-in-hand with our existing martial arts curriculum.
The
goal of Verbal Judo is to redirect negative behavior and reduce
conflict through verbal communication. Originally,this
method was taught just to police officers. The methods are applicable,
however, to all ages and all walks of life.
Both children and
adults alike face issues of harassment and bullying – on the
playground, at school and in the workplace. I feel very strongly that
Verbal Judo will equip students with the skills they need to prevent
verbal attacks from escalating, and -- maybe one day -- save someones
life. Better still, they're based on street-tested, time-proven
principles.
Like other parts of our curriculum, much of this must be practiced outside of the
dojo.
This means homework for both kids and adults. Parents, if your child is
in class, we will be sending some material home as the classes
progress. There will also be additional information here on this website for students.
If you have any questions, as always you can contact me directly via email or on my cell at 530-613-6779.
