Sacramento Martial Arts and Karate
How I became a fan of Zen Martial Arts Center
My name is Marjorie Schultz, wife of Jonathan Schultz, who introduced me to Mr. Oliver and Zen Martial Arts. I work for Sutter Health as an Accountant. I am a certified public accountant (CPA) and I'm actively involved in the Americal Society of Women Accountants (ASWA). I have been a member of the dojo since January.
Jonathan and I have frequently tried to find activities to do together; from golf, to bicycling to working out at the gym. None have quite seemed to fit both our interests as much as Mr. Oliver's class. Jonathan, having seen me go through my faze of Billy Blanks exercise videos and listening to me complian of how uninterested I've become of going to the gym, recommended I try Mr. Oliver's class.
The thought of getting involved in a karate class was quite intimidating and not somethng that I would have sought out on my own. Jonathan kept encouraging me to attend a class saying that it's something he knew I would enjoy. Watching him come home from class and show me what he learned, which frequently included me in the demonstration, made me notice how much he had taken an interest in karate and how I needed to support him and become involved in his new found passion.
Jonathan was right, karate is something that I do enjoy. And the best part is, it's something we share and do together. Mr. Oliver's class is physically challenging and mentally stimulating. At the end of the class, even though I'm spent, it leaves me wanting more. Jonathan and I will frequently come home after class and show each other what we learned.

I'm really glad that you are sharing your karate with one another--and with all of us!
Now that you've been training for a few months, what are some of your karate related goals that you can share?

It's been six months or so since your post, but this is the first time I ran across it. I'm still kind of new to message boards and things like this! I hope you and your husband have continued to enjoy learning karate together. My husband and I are both interested in the adult karate class. (Our daughter, Ella is in Tiny Tigers and son, Jack, is in the junior class). I took a month of self defense classes from Mr. Oliver a while back that were great. We just haven't quite found a way to fit karate in for all four of us at the same time yet, but we may be joining you one of these days!
