July 9 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Coloma Community Center

Sacramento, CA, June 10, 2011 – Zen Martial Arts is hosting its second annual community picnic on Saturday, July 9 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Coloma Community Center (4623 T Street) in East Sacramento.  The event is free and open to the public, especially kids of all ages.

This year, in an effort to be “green”, students of the karate school and guests are encouraged to bring their own “mess kits” (plates, cups, napkins and utensils) in order to reduce consumption of plastic and paper products.

At the event, there will be water wars for the kids, a bounce house, snow cones and pot-luck foods provided by local families.

In addition, members of the karate school will be collecting donations of canned and non-perishable food items for the Sacramento Food Bank.

“We are excited to celebrate the second year of our karate school with a community picnic,” said Mike Oliver, second-degree black belt and founder of Zen Martial Arts.  “It’s the perfect opportunity to bring together outdoor fun, caring for the environment, and giving to those in need in our community.”

I just put together mess kits for me and Ella to go to Mom and Me girl scout camp in a couple weeks.  Who knew I would get to break them in a week early at the dojo picnic?!  Cool.
