Sacramento Martial Arts and Karate

Saturday, before our dojo kotohajime cleaning, those of us involved with the Ultimate Black Belt Test got together for our first team workout. As the leader of the team and of this particular workout, I knew that I would be expected to bring on a decent challenge. Never one to disappoint, we laid it on thick.

Each us did the following:

  • Ran 1 mile
  • 480 Kicks
  • 240 Push-ups
  • 240 Sit-ups
  • And about 10 minutes of non-stop Bear crawls, monkey crawls, tuck jumps, and ladder climbs.

Everyone was challenged in one way or another. Some people struggled with completing the run, others had a hard time with the kicks. Some people nearly passed out from exhaustion. No one quit. And that is what the UBBT is all about--training our rears off and living the life of a real black-belt. It doesn't matter how old you are (Our youngest on the team is 11), what injuries you have (Heart problems? Bad knees? Our team has them all), or what rank you are (we have white belts all the way up to 3rd degree black belts on the team).

For my UBBT student team, remember this when you are struggling throughout the year to complete the challenges. For everyone else, remember the only time you fail is when you fail to try.
