Opening Up the Outdoors - Green Belt Project

Getting kids and families having fun outside is important for many reasons. To name a few, exploring the outdoors leads to a greater appreciation for nature and natural beauty, enhances observation skills, increases environmental awareness, provides a venue for exploration, and teaches hands-on ecology and biology.

 

In order to help kids and families make the most of the outdoors, I am collecting fun and safe places to explore as part of my green belt project.  I am posting these outdoors excursions on at sacoutdoors.wordpress.com.

 

I need YOUR HELP to make the site better.  As I did not grow up in Sacramento, my knowledge of outdoor areas to explore is limited.  If you know of a fun and safe place less than two hours from Sacramento, which is suitable for kids and their families, please let me know so I can share it on my website.  Either send me an email at [e-mail] or go to the site and use the built in form.  When sending me information, please include the location, available activities (and cost, if any), amenities (such as water fountains or restrooms) and any other interesting information about the location.  If you have any digital photos showing the area, please email them to me as well.

 

To get things started, I have posted a couple of locations I enjoy exploring (the Quarry Trail in the Auburn State Recreation Area) and the State Capitol Park (downtown Sacramento).  I will be adding more locations in the coming weeks.
