Week 5 and a Status Check

Week 5:

  • Brought in the new year (woo!)
  • Ended the first month and started the second
  • Achieved the rank of Shichi Kyu
  • Broke the 5000 mark on push-ups and sit-ups
  • Started learning my first kata!

That's one busy week.

Feeling pretty good about things but thankful that I spent some time on my tracking spreadsheet. Staring at that thing and color coding rows, cells,…

A Tofu Smoothie... Mmmm

Tofu Goodness Just For You

Just wanted to offer up another tofu recipe. This one will likely be more appealing... I mean, who doesn't love smoothies?!?!?! The thing with this recipe is that it hides the tofu really well because it calls for silken tofu. Silken tofu basically has the consistency of yogurt so it's a perfect swap.

Ingredients:

6 ounces silken tofu

1 medium banana

2/3 cup soy milk (any milk works really,… Continue

Week 4 And a Merry Christmas

Days away from the first month. Doesn't feel like it's been that long. Things are starting to feel like part of a routine, and don't feel so much like I have to make time for it. I think that's my biggest accomplishment so far.

Now, I'm feeling like listing, I'm a lister:

  • I got a new gi for Christmas... karate is everywhere in my life. :) My partner was doing push-ups with me and exclaimed, "I don't want a black belt! I don't even like belts!" This made my day…

Week 3 - Am I Buff Yet?

No... not yet. But...

Definitely getting stronger. I say that for two reasons: My push-ups are getting easier, and, more importantly, 150 push-ups a day doesn't feel as scary. Still scary, just not as scary.

I had some rough days this week. Fighting off a cold by leaving work early for a nap so I'd have the energy for karate class :) I noticed though, that even if I felt a bit blah on my way to calss, I felt completely reenergized by the end of…

UBBT - Week 2

2 weeks down, 50 or so to go!

So far so good. I'm keeping up with my lunch time workouts and I continue to be "motivated" (read taunted or teased) by my cell mates at work. The white board in my cubicle is a special little alert to my neighbor who apparently doesn't like odd numbers. Every now and then I have to do 10 push-ups or sit-ups just to make the white board full of even numbers. Ha.

I think I've started up a little running group at work, too. Have 4 or 5 people a day…

A little bit of tofu in your life...

A couple weeks ago Mr. Oliver asked me to share some tofu recipes with the class. So, here comes recipe number 1.

Let me just say... A lot of people I talk to who dislike tofu say it's "a texture thing." Now, you can sneak the silken tofu into a smoothie and *poof* ... You just protein'd up your frozen strawberries. With the firm tofu, it's not so easy. So this recipe is kind of middle of the road... not silken, yogurt-like tofu, but not over-cooked and crunchy… Continue

UBBT: Week 1 (ish)

Week 1

So, it's not really been a week yet, but I'm a the Monday - Sunday week kinda' gal, so...

This week felt good. I'm able to get a lot in during my hour lunch break which is pretty lucky. I slip away from my desk right at 12 and am out the door for my run by 12:05. I get a 5k (3.2 miles) in and am in the company gym by about 12:35. Then I race through my crunchies in sets of 25, and struggle through as many push-ups as I have time for. Usually that's between 75…

UBBT and My Lesson From Lisa

A few weeks ago Lisa S. wrote a journal entry about establishing a baseline. It motivated me. I've been an athlete for... ever, basically. Still, never occured to me to establish a baseline, a starting point for each new goal. So I started experimenting for what my baseline around the UBBT challenge might be. My biggest concern was around time management. Partner, two kids, work, school... blah, blah, blah, right? But... I pick a race or two or three every year to train for, so, I'm used to…
